Giving Back to Those Who Give So Much

It is important to always remember and give thanks to the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to defending our freedom. As we begin our preparations for Thanksgiving, whether it’s baking a pie, buying a turkey or setting up the new television to watch football, let us not forget about the thousands of servicemen and women who are away from their families and friends.

This month, Raytheon employees across the country have partnered with community food banks and local charities to fill and mail thousands of care packages to our troops overseas. For many, these packages are the only mail they receive during their deployment.

'Getting a care package from family or friends during those hard times brought just enough of 'home' to me.' - Derek Duplisea, U.S. Army veteran and Raytheon employee

“Being away from home during the holidays is tough,” said Derek Duplisea, U.S. Army veteran and Raytheon employee. “Getting a care package from family or friends during those hard times brought just enough of ‘home’ to me. Their actions reaffirmed my beliefs - I was not only fighting for my country, I was fighting to maintain their way of life, their freedom and their liberties.”

Opening a care package filled with favorite snacks brings a smile to anyone’s face, and it is easy for you to help. There are many organizations across the country that accept donations. If you can’t find one in your area you can find organizations online such as www.anysoldier.com.

As you prepare for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season, please remember those that are not able to spend time with their loved ones. Take some time to donate items and bring a smile to our deployed servicemen and women
